Former Miss Lango contestant Poska Akello joins race for Oyam District Female Youth Councillor.
Former Miss Lango contestant Poska Akello has declared her intention to contest for the position of Female Youth Councillor for Oyam District.
Speaking to journalists in Oyam Town Council recently, Akello—who was crowned Miss Heritage Lango 2024/25—officially announced her candidacy on the NRM ticket following her successful nomination. She stated that her decision to join the race was inspired by the love and support she received from the people of Oyam during the Miss Lango competition. Akello called on young women across the district to rally behind her in the upcoming elections.
She explained that participating in the pageant exposed her to the numerous challenges facing young women in the community, including early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and parental neglect. Noting the absence of strong female youth representation, she felt compelled to enter politics in order to address these issues.
Akello appealed to all youth to support her bid, pledging to introduce initiatives and promote positive development among young girls in Oyam if elected.
In interviews with our reporter, Ajok Sindrella from Loro Town Council and Sarah Acio from Iceme expressed support for Akello’s candidacy. They urged all eligible NRM delegates to vote for her, citing her strong leadership potential.
Poska Akello, aged 26, is a professional educator, mentor, and public speaker with a background in the arts. She hails from the Okii Ojukol clan in Abanya Parish, Kamdini Town Council.
