Oyam District is receiving praise for its commitment to promoting Local Economic Development (LED), a move seen as vital to uplifting communities and boosting household incomes.

This commendation was made by Musinguzi Leonard, Team Leader of the Local Economic Development Department at the Ministry of Local Government, during a one-day training workshop held in Oyam.

The session focused on leveraging LED and the Parish Development Model to foster positive change within communities.

In his speech, Musinguzi commended the commitment of Oyam District’s departmental heads, praising their collaborative efforts in advancing LED initiatives. He emphasised that the Ministry is mandated to ensure that LED and investment committees in all districts are fully operational.

These structures, he noted, play a crucial role in attracting investment, creating employment opportunities for youth, women, and men, enhancing service delivery, increasing local production and household incomes, and boosting locally generated revenue.

Meanwhile, Alex Enon, the District Commercial Officer, welcomed the initiative from the Ministry of Local Government. He noted that empowering district stakeholders with knowledge would accelerate wealth creation through the registration of local businesses. He also called on the business community in Oyam to support revenue collection efforts as a means of advancing district development.

Local Economic Development (LED) is a process through which local governments, the private sector, and communities collaborate to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for all citizens. It is a participatory approach that encourages partnerships among stakeholders to mobilise resources, manage investments, and promote economic development within a specific area.
