A storm is brewing in the heart of Oyam District as Phillips Jakayo Ogile, a prominent NRM figure and former Publicity Secretary, has officially petitioned the results of the recently concluded NRM LCIII flag bearer elections in Abok Sub County. Ogile, known for his grassroots mobilization and vocal advocacy for party unity, alleges widespread irregularities and demands a full recount to uphold the party’s democratic principles.

Key Allegations Raised by Ogile:

  • Tampering and Omission of Results: Ogile claims that several village results were either altered or omitted entirely, particularly in Ariba Parish, where the declared tally at the center did not match the actual votes cast.
  • Ineligible Voting: He cites cases of UPC supporters and individuals not listed in the NRM registry casting votes at polling stations such as Abok Trading Center and Apapi Pe Village.
  • Conflict of Interest and Bias: Ogile accuses Sub County NRM Chairperson Mr. Francis Oyuku and GISO Abok of openly campaigning for his rival and interfering in the tallying process.
  • Party Loyalty Concerns: He questions the allegiance of the declared winner, alleging dual party affiliations and public criticism of senior NRM leaders, including Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng.

In his petition, Ogile warns that failure to address these concerns will force him to run as an independent candidate, a move that could fracture NRM support in oyam District . “I reject the results and demand a recount. If ignored, I will move against party rules and regulations,” he stated.

Ogile has long been a key player in Oyam’s political landscape, previously serving as LCIII Chairperson of Abok and contributing to development initiatives like Abok Seed Secondary School. His petition adds to a growing list of disputes across Uganda following the NRM primaries, with over 400 petitions filed nationwide.

The NRM Election Disputes Tribunal, chaired by John Musiime, is currently reviewing petitions from across the country. While rulings for Abok Sub County are yet to be released, Ogile’s petition is expected to draw significant attention due to its detailed claims and potential impact on party unity in Oyam.
