Lamwo District Councillors III are set to receive long-awaited ex-gratia arrears for the 2022/2023 financial year, following the release of UGX 125 million by the district.
Documents seen by Tembo FM show that the money covers 15 sub-counties and four town councils. The delayed payment had earlier sparked protests, with several councilors spending a night at the district headquarters demanding their arrears.
District Speaker Hon. James Ochola Pasii confirmed the development, saying improved coordination between his office and district authorities has finally unlocked the funds. Sub-counties are now required to acknowledge receipt so that accountants can initiate withdrawals and process payments.
Ochola says councilors should expect to receive their money next week, once all banking confirmations are completed.
He added that ex-gratia for the 2023/2024 financial year has not yet been received but is expected in the third or fourth quarter, while honoraria for both Councillors III and V has already been cleared. The Speaker commended the district leadership for responding to the councilors’ concerns and urged them to act faster on issues affecting local leaders.
