Residents of Pajule Town Council in Pader District were on Tuesday evening left in shock after a mobile money attendant allegedly took his own life. The deceased, identified as Simon Okello, also known as Akem, aged 25 and a resident of Aywee West Cell, was found hanging inside a house shortly after reportedly losing over one million shillings from the mobile money shop he operated.
According to Tito Brilliant Okello, the LC III chairperson of Pajule Town Council, the deceased’s employer had agreed to recover part of the lost money gradually, but Okello went on to end his life.
Mr. Okello has since appealed to community members to seek help from friends, family, or leaders whenever they face financial or emotional challenges instead of resorting to suicide.
Meanwhile, in Kitgum, the Police are investigating the suspected suicide of a 30-year-old man identified as Onencan Goddy, a resident of Mede Village, Pajimo Parish, Labongo Akwang Sub-county.
According to police reports, the incident happened on Tuesday night, following a domestic dispute between the deceased and his girlfriend, Aciro Lillian, who is also his clan sister.
Police say the quarrel escalated into a fight, prompting Aciro’s brothers to intervene, allegedly assaulting Goddy before locking him inside one of the houses in their compound. He was later found dead, hanging from a rope inside the house around midnight.
Aswa East Regional Police PRO, IP Oloya Joe, confirmed the incident, urging the public to remain calm and to seek peaceful ways of resolving domestic issues rather than resorting to violence.
