The president of Uganda who also doubles as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairman, Yoweri Museveni, has been nominated to contest for presidency on NRM party ticket and also to lead the party as the national chairman. This has been confirmed by the party Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, who declared him unopposed. This employs that Museveni will be the NRM flag bearer in the forthcoming general elections on the position of President. At Kyadondo, Museveni was accompanied by his wife, Hon. Janet Museveni. Before being nominated, he represented everything required for him to be nominated, including evidence of paying the nomination fee.
Meanwhile, the ministry of water and environment, through the department of meteorological services, this week, released the Uganda’s weather forecast for July 2025. According to the ministry, the rainfall outlook for July 2025 indicates that most parts of Northern Uganda are expected to receive moderate rainfall, while the Southern parts of the country are expected to receive suppressed rainfall. The officials addressed the media at Uganda Media centre in Kampala, confirmed that their will be changes in the weather but promised to continue monitoring the situation.
The month of July 2025 generally marks a dry season for many parts of the country, particularly the Lake Victoria basin, central, southern and some parts of central Uganda and eastern districts neighboring the central and Lake Victoria regions. Moderate rainfall is expected to resume over West Nile, Acholi, Karamoja, Lango, Teso, Mt Elgon, Bukedi and some districts of Busoga bordering Bukedi and Teso Sub regions. Most parts of the central region is currently experiencing dry conditions with intermittent light rains that are expected to continue gradually, reaching their peak in August 2025.
The ministry officials also told the country that the minimum temperatures for July 2025 are predicted to range between 18°C and 24°C across most parts of Uganda. They have advised farmers in Central, Western, and Eastern regions bordering central and Lake Victoria, to continue harvesting their crops and preparing new crops as July and August 2025 is a rainfall season of their regions. Soil and water conservation practices such as waterways, stone bands, contour trenches, diversion channels, grass bands should be implemented to minimize the impacts of flooding and water-logging.
