As the NRM campaign in Oyam South concludes today, fear has gripped the family of Nommy Otyeno, who has reportedly not slept at his home in Kamdini for the past four days due to alleged plans by some of his colleagues to harm him.
Speaking to our reporter, Otyeno expressed serious concern for his safety, revealing that unknown individuals have been pursuing him with the intention of causing harm. He claims the threats have forced him to abandon his residence and seek refuge elsewhere.
According to Otyeno, those allegedly planning the attack are politically close to him, although he insists he is not in conflict with any of the parliamentary candidates in Oyam South.
Ahead of the joint campaign event scheduled to take place in Kamdini Sub-county and Town Council, Otyeno expressed fears of an organised gang allegedly mobilised by one of his colleagues, a fellow MP aspirant. He believes the group intends to disrupt his speech by shouting him down, driven by concerns over his growing popularity among voters.
Otyeno also dismissed rumours circulating among voters that he is still a member of UPC, clarifying that he holds goodwill towards everyone regardless of political affiliation. He rejected claims that Amongi Betty Akene recently donated UGX 900 million to him, describing such talk as baseless propaganda. He urged his supporters to remain steadfast and ignore the misinformation being spread by rival politicians.
Attempts to obtain a comment from the Oyam RDC, the district’s representative and custodian of the NRM party, were unsuccessful, as his phone was unreachable at the time of publication.
