Aswa East Region registers four murder cases in one week

The police in the Aswa East Region last week registered four murder cases, arising from domestic violence and land disputes.  

On April 3rd, 2025, a case of murder was recorded in Lagaya, Palabek Kal subcounty in Lamwo, near the border with South Sudan. The deceased, Thomas Omara, 18, a peasant farmer was found lying in a pool of blood.

On 3rd April 2025, a case of suspected poisoning was recorded in Pader town council. It was reported that the deceased, Doreen Anying, returned home at about 11 pm after a drinking spree, but when she knocked on the door to be let into the house, her husband refused to open it and ended up sleeping in her mother-in-law’s room. However, she lost consciousness and was pronounced dead the following day at about 1 pm.

On April 4th, 2025, a case of aggravated robbery was reported in Kalongo town council, Agago district, resulting in the death of Canoroma Bazil, a businessman. Canoroma was reportedly struck on the head around 8 pm by thugs who escaped with cash amounting to Ugx 10 million. The suspect, Ojok Alex, has been arrested, while others are still at large.

On April 5th, 2025, a suspected thief was lynched by an angry mob in Ginnery West cell, Guu A ward in Kitgum municipality.

The Aswa East Regional Police Spokesperson, IP Joe Oloya called for community vigilance to reduce the trend of such cases and urged locals in the region to desist from taking the law into their own hands.
