Kitgum, Uganda – Police in Kitgum District are holding a 30-year-old village registrar over allegations of forgery and falsifying documents during the NRM primary elections for LC3 chairperson, held on 14th August 2025.
The suspect, identified as Ouma Charles, a peasant farmer and resident of Manwoko South, Akworo Parish, Labongo Amida Sub-county, was arrested following a complaint lodged at Kitgum Central Police Station by Aloch Bosco Oscar, a police officer attached to the Electoral Desk at Kitgum CPS.
It is alleged that on the afternoon of 14th August, at around 2:00 pm, while counting votes for candidate Komakech Geoffrey Alulu in Manwoko Village, Akworo South Parish, Ouma skipped the tally from 39 to 60. The irregularity was reportedly captured on video. Upon raising the alarm, Ouma was arrested on the spot and taken into custody.
IP Joe Oloya, the PRO for Aswa East Region, confirmed the arrest and said all exhibits related to the incident had been recovered. Statements have also been recorded from the complainant and other relevant witnesses. Oloya added that inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
