Kitgum District, Labongo Amida Subcounty – A group of seven young men, formerly notorious for terrorising the community as part of the infamous “Aguu” gang, have publicly repented, embraced Christ, and pledged to abandon their criminal ways.

The seven individuals—Otim Emmanuel, Ouma Steven, Okot Edmond, Tabule Robert, Akena Michael, and Ocaya Morgan—were presented to the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kitgum District, Mr. Komakech Walter Oyo, on Wednesday at the RDC boardroom.

One of the gang members, Ocaya Morgan (22), claimed he had never stolen from the wider community but admitted to taking items such as sim sim and money from his mother due to financial hardship.

Another member, Okot Edmond, also declared Jesus as his Lord and Saviour and vowed never to return to a life of crime.

However, the confessions were met with mixed reactions. Ms. Ayaa Florence, mother of Ocaya Morgan, expressed deep frustration with law enforcement, citing the frequent release of suspects shortly after arrest.

In response, Deputy RDC Komakech Walter Oyo assigned each of the reformed youths to security personnel in their respective villages for close monitoring. He also directed local council (LC) leaders to immediately halt gambling activities involving money, particularly card games.

Mr. Komakech further ordered Komakech, Olanya, and two boda boda riders—Omara and Odio—to report to his office immediately or face arrest.

All seven former gang members signed a consent form to formalise their commitment to change and to refrain from stealing or terrorising community members in the future.
