Authorities in Agago District have raised concern over increasing cases of internal livestock theft, despite improved security in the area.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Agago, Susan Akot Moro, says the district is currently experiencing relative peace compared to previous years, following a reduction in cattle raids from Karamoja.

However, she revealed that some residents have turned to livestock theft, disguising themselves as Karimojong rustlers, while others are reportedly collaborating with the raiders.

Ms Moro also attributed the problem to poor livestock management practices, noting that many farmers allow their animals to roam freely, making them easy targets for thieves.

She urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information to enable quick response to any incidents.

The Deputy RDC further commended government efforts in opening security roads, which have improved patrol operations, although she noted that some areas are still inaccessible.

Authorities say community vigilance and cooperation remain key in addressing the vice.
