Kitgum Standard Secondary School has emerged winner of the 2026 USSSA Zonal Ball Games One Championship held in Kitgum District.
The finals, played on Sunday at Y.Y Okot Memorial Grounds, saw Kitgum Standard defeat P.P. Newton Secondary School from Gulu District 2-0 in a thrilling match. The first half ended in a goalless draw before Kitgum Standard secured victory in the second half.
The tournament, hosted by Y.Y Okot Memorial School, attracted over 1,000 spectators, along with participants from various schools across the Acholi sub-region. These included St. Joseph’s College Layibi, Pabo Secondary School, Kitgum Comprehensive College, and Rev. Jabuloni Isoke Memorial College, among others.
The Chairperson of Sports in the Acholi Sub-region, Mr. Okot Bitek, commended the participants and games teachers for their commitment and discipline.
He urged players to maintain discipline not only at regional competitions but also at the national level.
Schools that qualified for the national championships to be held at Lira Town College include Kitgum Standard SS, P.P. Newton SS, and Pabo Secondary School from Amuru District.
In the girls’ category, Sacred Heart Secondary School of Gulu emerged champions after defeating Kitgum Comprehensive School 3-0.
Four schools will represent the Acholi Sub-region at the national level in Mukono District. These are Sacred Heart SS, Kitgum Comprehensive College, Rev. Jabuloni Isoke Memorial School, and Restore Leadership High School.
