Three arrested in Alebtong over illegal possession of ivory

Police ofAlebtong Central Police Stationin Alebtong district are holding three people in their custody over illegal possession of ivory.

 Martin Ocen, Tom Omol and his wife Grace Omol, who are all locals of Angeta parish, Angeta Sub County in Alebtong district were arrested yesterday by police of Amuria district who handed them over to their counterparts of Alebtong district.

A local resident of Angetta who pleaded for anonymity said the trio was found with six pairs of ivory suspected to have been got from an elephant they poached from Murchison Falls National Park.

This source said the suspects were arrested as they looked for market for the Ivory under their possession.

Alebtong Resident District Commissioner Robert Adiama confirmed their arrest. 

 Adiama said the suspects will be followed with the law for being in unlawful possession of protected species, contrary to Uganda Wild Life Act, Section 36 (1) and 71(1) (b).
