The Ministry of education and sports has rejected the idea of establishing seed secondary schools on church land.

The Lira district inspector of schools, Patrick Olwit said a team of officials from the ministry of education came to the district to assess the new sub counties for establishment of seed schools but gave the district condition to find community land instead of church land for establishing seed schools.

In case the only available land belongs to a church, Olwit said the ministry wants the church to surrender the land completely so that the title can be processed in the name of the host sub county or the district.

The move according to Olwit is intended to eliminate foundation body conflict over transfer of head teachers and teachers.

Olwit on Seed Schools

Most of the Seed schools in the region are established on communal land or the land bought by the sub counties, and it is a deliberate move by the government to provide cheap and affordable education to the citizens.

Lira district has two seed schools that include: Agali and Ogur Seed SS.
