The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has officially launched a state-of-the-art Traffic Control Centre at City Hall, Kampala, aimed at enhancing traffic management across the city. KCCA Executive Director Sharifa Buzeki told the media that the centre will enable authorities to monitor traffic efficiently and will be used by multiple agencies.

“This is a good initiative that will help us monitor traffic in the city. We have invested Uganda Shillings 47 billion over 30 months. I am glad that JICA has been instrumental as funders for this project. We therefore urge all residents to respect traffic rules and regulations. Regarding the KCCA clinic renovation, we are committed to refurbishing it along with the entire building,” Buzeki said.

The Traffic Control Centre is part of the Kampala Smart Traffic Project, established with support from JICA and the Government of Japan. It is expected to enhance traffic flow, improve road safety, and increase the efficiency of Kampala’s transport network and its metropolitan areas.

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting: “I want to thank the government for this traffic centre. We can now see the beginnings of a smart city. We also urge the government to consider renovating the Lord Mayor’s building.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Kyofatogabye Kabuye, applauded JICA and encouraged residents to support ongoing development. “I remind the people of Kampala to vote for President Museveni in 2026 and urge KCCA leadership to protect these gains. This is just the beginning, and we will continue lobbying for the people of Kampala and the nation,” he said.

In other news, the Electoral Commission (EC) has begun the nomination process for councillors, division mayors, and other positions. Nasazzi Jesca, an aspiring councillor, urged voters to trust her, stating: “I believe I am the only one who can achieve what others cannot.” Beatrice Mao, aspiring Lord Mayor of Kampala, promised residents a healthier and better-managed city, emphasising her commitment as the best candidate. The nominations are being held at the Kampala District Electoral Commission office in Ntinda.
