The Independent Presidential Advisor on Trade and Investment, Dr. Jim Tubuhaburwa, yesterday joined top leaders of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), residents, and volunteers in a large-scale clean-up exercise aimed at restoring cleanliness and improving the environment in downtown Kampala.

Dr. Tubuhaburwa, who is also the chairman of Truxor Company in Uganda, participated alongside KCCA officials in several activities including waste evacuation, sweeping, and tree planting. The clean-up covered key areas such as Ben Kiwanuka Street, Luwum Street, William Street, Namirembe Road, and Nasser Road.

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Tubuhaburwa reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving the cleanliness and safety of Kampala and other major towns across the country.

“Leadership managed to join KCCA to clean up downtown Kampala, and we shall continue rendering our support,” he said. “During our cleaning near Mapeera House, we managed to arrest a wrongdoer, commonly known as a ‘kifesi,’ who was attacking people with pavers. Let’s keep safe and keep our city clean.”

KCCA Executive Director Sharifa Buzeki commended all partners, residents, traders, and volunteers who participated in the exercise despite the rainy conditions. She noted that the collective effort demonstrated the possibility of transforming the city through cooperation.

“I want to sincerely thank every partner, resident, trader, volunteer, and staff member who braved the rain to support our Cleaning and Greening Kampala campaign,” she said. “From cleaning arcades to clearing hidden dumpsites and planting grass and flowers along road islands, you proved that transformation is possible when we work together.”

Buzeki emphasized that maintaining a clean city requires the active involvement of every citizen. She urged the public to avoid littering, use designated waste bins, and report illegal dumping.

“A clean city is not maintained by KCCA alone; it is sustained by the daily actions of its people,” she said. She also appreciated vendors who have complied with relocation efforts and encouraged others to follow suit to ensure that city streets remain safe and accessible.

The clean-up initiative is part of KCCA’s broader campaign to restore Kampala’s cleanliness, improve its appearance, and create a safer and healthier environment for residents, businesses, and visitors. Authorities hope that continued collaboration between government leaders, partners, and the public will help sustain these efforts and transform Kampala into a cleaner and greener city.
