Sports Club Villa, one of Uganda’s most historic football clubs, has held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kampala as part of efforts to strengthen its leadership and plan for the future. The meeting was attended by club president Omar Mandela, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Gerald Ssendaula, fans, and other stakeholders.

During the AGM, the leadership announced that the club will hold presidential elections on March 22, 2026. The board assured fans and well-wishers that the club is laying a strong foundation that will ensure greater success over the next 50 years.

Chairman Gerald Ssendaula expressed satisfaction with the club’s performance under the interim leadership, highlighting achievements both on and off the pitch.

“We are happy with the performance since this leadership assumed responsibility. Within the first year, we nearly won the league, and in the subsequent year, we won it. While we have not been as successful as we should be, we are building a strong team and are encouraged by the support we continue to receive,” Ssendaula said.

He revealed that the club secured a five-year sponsorship deal with Linglong through its business partnerships, which is expected to strengthen its financial stability and support future growth. He also noted that the club successfully followed up and received over Shs3 billion in compensation after part of its Villa Park ground was taken over.

Fans used the AGM to raise concerns about the club’s progress, and the leadership responded to their questions, emphasizing transparency and accountability. However, supporters were urged to maintain discipline, as misconduct could result in penalties such as fines and loss of points for the club.

Club spokesperson Asan Kasingye outlined the election roadmap, stating that nomination forms will be picked on March 3 and 4, 2026, and returned on March 7, when verification will also take place. Vetting of candidates is scheduled for March 8 and 9, followed by the hearing of appeals on March 9. The final list of candidates will be announced on March 10, ahead of the elections on March 22.
