We shall fight for you-FUTA to traders

Federation of Uganda Traders Association (FUTA) is an umbrella body composed of different traders in Uganda. This body according to the leaders, it was created to solve problems of traders. The Current president of the federation, John Kabanda, assured traders that they are going to find solutions to the problems facing traders. “FUTA doesn’t discriminate, whether you are a two pieces of tomatoes seller, you are a trader. and that is why we came up to find ways of helping.” Kabanda said.

In a meeting held at New Taxi Park in Kampala central division, traders from various parts of the country showed support to the association. Badru Serungongi the chairman of the Taxi Park welcomed them and warned them not to be violent. “We welcome you here, but remember this is where we get what to eat. In other words don’t be violent because we can’t accept that.” he said. Mr. Rashid Sekindi, the chairman of the federation of Uganda Taxi Operators Association who was also among the guests advised FUTA to correct the concerns of the traders. “If the leaders you invited don’t come, its your advantage. you will be able to get enough time to listen to the concerns of the traders. But if they come, they may not be able to express their concerns freely because of the limited time.” Sekindi said.

Leaders from Wandegeya Market, Usafi Market, St. Balikuddembe Market, Kasubi Market, etc thanked the association for coming up with a good idea to help them. Annet Nakaggwa from Kikuubo market thanked the leadership for organizing this meeting. Some of the issues raised by the traders were not far similar. Kasubi Market leaders raised a concern about the size of the road and parking lot for their customers etc.

In conclusion, the president of the association promised the gathering that they are going to find mechanism to solve the problems affecting traders. “Ladies and Gentlemen, Hon. Minister has sent her apology. We assure you that we shall be there for you.” Kabanda confirmed. The Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan affairs, Hon. Minsa Kabanda was supposed to be the chief guest but she was unable to attend according to FUTA president John Kabanda who promised on behalf of the team, that they will soon organize elections to elect new leaders. According to the law, there is no leaders in the  Markets.
