As the general elections draw closer, politicians, particularly members of parliament from various parts of the country, along with those intending to replace them, have begun their pre-campaigns to win over voters ahead of the elections. Against this backdrop, the woman member of parliament for Kyankwanzi District, Hon. Christine Bukenya Sendawula, during the introduction ceremony of Mr. Jamil Mubiru and Ms. Nagidah in Nkandwa, Kyankwanzi District, addressed guests on matters concerning government programmes and how they should embrace them.
“Before I address the people, allow me first and foremost to thank Nagidah’s father, Sheikh Muzamir, for inviting me and giving me the opportunity to speak to everyone present. I will begin by urging the couple to continuously love one another. When you express love, nothing will fail. The rest will automatically follow. May the good Lord bless you with good health, wealth, and children. To the people here, please focus on the developmental programmes the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has brought to this area,” she said. Some of the programmes spearheaded by the government include Emyooga, the Parish Development Model (PDM), among others, all aimed at combating poverty, especially in rural areas where many people face significant challenges.
The woman member of parliament also used the occasion to explain to the residents what the district gained from the recent Women’s Day celebrations, held at Butemba College playgrounds in Bukwiri Town Council, Kyankwanzi District, under the theme “Accelerating Action for Gender Equality,” which was officiated by the president and the first lady. “Some have said that we achieved nothing from hosting the Women’s Day celebrations, but let me tell you, I requested the president to construct Masode and Nkooko roads for us, and as I speak, the process is already underway. Another issue I raised with him was the need to ensure the people of Kiyuni get back their land, and I want to assure you that Ms Nyakairima will be compensated, and the people will regain their land. So, we did achieve something from hosting Women’s Day,” she said.
In conclusion, Hon. Christine Bukenya made an official appeal to the voters of Kyankwanzi District to vote for her again, as, according to her, she has performed well and still has the capacity to serve her people even better. She also spoke about the land issues she had resolved. Other aspiring leaders in various positions were also given the opportunity to address the crowd, promising not to disappoint the electorate if given the chance to serve the people of Kyankwanzi District. The district Kadhi of Kyankwanzi, in his speech, called on people, especially couples, to involve God in everything they do. “Involve God in whatever you do. Nagidah, always submit to your husband and never speak ill of him,” he said.
