On Monday 2nd 2025, National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party, through its Electoral Commission, commenced the process of receiving party members who wish to stand on various positions such as Member of Parliament, Mayors and Local Council Chairperson s (LCV). Today it enters day three and according to the Party Chairperson, Dr. Tang Odoi, yesterday, a total of 1303 aspirants picked nomination forms which they are expected to return as per the guidelines.
David Bahati, the minister of state for Trade industry and current member of Parliament for Ndorwa West constituency, while speaking to journalists after receiving nomination form explained what he has been able to do for his people. “All the Sub counties have electricity, health centers, secondary schools, etc, and also a university. I am thankful to my party for appointing me as the chairperson,” he said.
The minister also said that they have been able to tarmac most of the roads which improves on movement of people and goods. “We have done a lot, that is why the people of Kabale are with us for all these years and very confident that come 15th July 2025, they will vote us again so that we continue pushing the agenda of prosperity,” he added. Buhwejju West County, aspiring member of Parliament, John Bosco, also told the media that the process of receiving nomination forms was good and he commended the party Electoral Commission for organizing well. “The process is good. What I want to do for the people of Buhwejju West County, is improving their earnings through service delivery. We have gold, tea and other things which we can sell and get money,” he said.
Bosco continues to state that If he is given the opportunity, he will make sure that his people benefit from gold and tea by connecting them with the buyers. He also said that, he is going to work on their roads such that the people can access the bigger market. Budiope East Constituency, aspiring member of Parliament, Geoffrey Damuzungu, confirmed that after receiving nomination forms, he is going to continue working hard to make sure that his people get services such as education, among others. “People of Budiope East Constituency, Know what I can do especially in education sector. If am given the opportunity, I am going to continue doing what I have been doing, even more,” he said.
Security minister, Jim Muhwezi, after receiving nomination forms, assured his people that this is the last term for him. “What is taking me back is finishing what I started in terms of serving the people. I want to take electricity to all the villages in my Constituency. This is my final term. I want to create space for young people,” he said. Meanwhile, aspiring woman member of Parliament for Kagadi District, Nazziwa Margaret Rujjumba, is optimistic that she is going to be given the opportunity to represent the women of her district in Parliament because of her hard work. “Kagadi is facing a lot of challenges, and one of them is lack of jobs, so I have come to find solutions to that through lobbying. I request them to remember me and I will not disappoint them,” she said.
Other aspirants who picked nomination forms are, Victoria Bagaya who is aspiring for woman member of Parliament for Fort Portal City, Hon. Lukia Nakadama; third deputy prime minister, Hon. Persis Namuganza; state minister of housing, Hon. Bright Rwamirama; state minister of Agriculture, Ruben Alaali, among others. The exercise has been moving well and will end on 15th June 2025. Aspiring MPs pay a fee of Uganda Shillings 3 million, while mayors pay nomination fee of Uganda Shillings 1.5 million.
