The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has today continued with the process of receiving expression of interests from different party members to contest for Member of Parliament, Mayor and Local Council V (LCV) respectively. While speaking to journalists at the secretariat in Kampala, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of the party, Dr. Tanga Odoi, confirmed that today, at least 266 members have picked nomination forms.
“We have so far 266 NRM members who have expressed interest. That shows that NRM party is strong and still a big party, he said. Adding that over 2000 people have so far picked nomination forms and ready to contest. Akampa Prossy, aspiring woman member of parliament for Knungu district, has pledged to work for her people once given the opportunity to serve them. “Our people are very poor, I am here to change that by making sure that they get the service they deserve,” she said.
Mayambala Yosamu, an aspiring Lord Mayor for Kampala, has also picked nomination forms and confirmed that once the people of Kampala gives him the opportunity to serve them, he is going to make sure that the hygiene of the city is improved and also promised to negotiate with government to make sure that the people of Kampala benefits from the national cake. Obed Byakureka, from Rubirizi, aspiring for LCV position is optimistic that his people will vote for him and he will work for them because he has been on the ground working.
In the same manner, Okuru Jimmy, aspiring member of parliament for youths in Northern Uganda, after picking nomination forms, told his voters that he is the best candidate because he knows what the young people need and knows where he can go to lobby for the youth of Northern Uganda. Namakula Rathia, aspiring Wakiso district Woman member of parliament, through Abdul Fatah, has also picked nomination forms and has assured her electorate that once she is given the opportunity to serve, she is going to make sure that women earn something. Thomas Kategere, who is aspiring member of parliament, after receiving nomination forms, said that the one who has been representing them, failed to do the role of representation, that is why he has offered himself to do that genuinely.
In the same manner, the President General of the Democratic Party (DP) and minister of justice and constitutional affairs, Hon. Norbert Mao, during a press conference in Kampala, told journalists that the Delegates Conference which was held in Mbarara City, went on very well, despite what he thinks were minor incidents. He however urged members of the Party who wishes to go to court, to embrace dialogue since they are all of the same party. Mao believes that the party he leads, will have more members of parliament than the ones they currently have.
