Kadaga and others picks nomination forms as Uganda prepares to celebrate child labour day

The first deputy prime minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga and other National Resistance Movement (NRM) party members have today picked nomination forms to contest for different positions in the party. Dr. Tanga Odoi, the party Electoral Commission chairperson, has confirmed that they have so far received 2258 members who have expressed interest. The exercise is ongoing at the party Electoral Commission Offices at Kyadondo road, plot 13, Kampala.

The Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, after picking nomination forms, has told the media that she is not feeling any pressure from the current speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among. Upon arrival, Kadaga was warmly received by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the party’s Electoral Commission Chairman. With a firm handshake and a knowing nod, he guided her through the meticulous registration process, ensuring every detail was in place. Kadaga wants to contest for Kamuli district Woman Member of Parliament once again.

Others who picked nomination forms are; Tusiime Yahyah aspiring LCV for Ntoroko district, Fred Mukasa aspiring MP for kiboga West Constituency, David Kamuntu aspiring MP for Ibanda South Constituency, Richard Katiriginya aspiring for LCV Sembabule district, Kusemererwa Harriet aspiring MP for Buliisa district, among others. All have told the media that they are the best candidates and they are optimistic that they are going to be given a chance to serve their people.

Meanwhile, the permanent secretary of ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Aggrey Kibenge, in a press briefing at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, has informed the general public that tomorrow Uganda will join other countries to commemorate the World Day against child labour. Under the theme,”End child labour: Let Us Speed Action.” and will be commemorated at Golden Tulip hotel in Kampala.

“The commemoration of this day brings to focus the global fight against child labor and efforts made to eliminate it. “I emphasize that child labour deprives children of their childhood and opportunity to develop their potential. It jeopardizes their overall development and interferes with their rights to education, without basic skills and education,” he said.
