The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Dr Tanga Odoi, has urged nominated party members to fulfil the responsibilities expected of them by the party. It should be noted that the nomination exercise began on 2nd June 2025, during which members expressed interest in contesting for various positions on the NRM ticket. The exercise is taking place at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kyadondo, Kampala.
The aspiring Member of Parliament for Nakawa West Constituency, Nantongo Zziwa, after her nomination, stated that the constituency must return to the National Resistance Movement. “I am here to address the issue of poor roads in Nakawa West Constituency. I want to ensure that NRM regains control of Nakawa, as it has historically been an NRM stronghold,” she said.
Similarly, Isaac Kato, aspiring Member of Parliament for Mbarara City, told the media after his nomination by the party’s Electoral Commission Chairperson that he is ready to address the challenges facing his constituents and serve them diligently. Many of the nominated candidates have identified rampant poverty in their constituencies as a major concern, particularly among the youth, and cited it as a key motivation for seeking elective office.
Remigio Achia, the aspiring Member of Parliament for Pian County in Karamoja District, expressed optimism about his chances of winning. He cited arbitrary arrests in his area as one of the issues he intends to address to restore peace and justice for his people.
Dr Tanga Odoi also noted that nominated candidates are permitted to come with their supporters. According to him, some members have been nominated unopposed, including the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Anita Among, among others.
Former Minister of Trade, Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, following her nomination, told the people of Mawokota that she has returned to set things right. She expressed confidence that her constituents will vote for her, as she is well-positioned to transform their lives through existing government programmes such as Emyooga, the Parish Development Model (PDM), and Operation Wealth Creation.
Ndahiro Jackson, aspiring candidate for Buwekula County, also assured the electorate that, if elected, he will bring positive change to the county, among other commitments.
Dianah Abwoori, the Woman Member of Parliament for Hoima City, speaking to journalists, asserted that she is the most capable candidate to address the challenges facing the oil-rich city.
It should be noted that aspiring Members of Parliament contesting on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket were required to pay a non-refundable nomination fee of Uganda Shillings 3 million. Those aspiring for Local Council V (LCV) chairperson and mayoral positions paid a fee of Uganda Shillings 1 million. The nomination exercise is scheduled to conclude on 30th June 2025.
