The first deputy prime minister of Uganda, the Rt Hon. Rebecca Alitwala kadaga has been nominated to contest for Kamuli district woman member of Parliament on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket. Speaking to journalists after being nominated, the former speaker of the 10th Parliament, has called upon the party members to vote for her to contest in the forth coming elections. “I want to thank the electoral commission of NRM for nominating me. I am very sure that the members are going to vote for me again to solve the issues which have not been solved yet. I want us to have an airport, and so far we’re doing so hard to make sure that it happens. This will help the people of Busoga and surrounding areas to board from that side, other than going to Entebbe international airport,” she said.

The NRM party electoral commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, while addressing the media and the country at large, said that they have so far nominated over 1900 members and only few members are remaining. The chairperson also confirmed to the party members that as the commission, they are not going to postpone the days for nomination, because they are too busy with the party work. “I want to tell our members that we are stopping this exercise on 30th June 2025. I appeal to members who expressed interest, to use the remaining days to come and be duly nominated,” he said.

It should be remembered that on 2nd June 2025, the NRM party, started the exercise where members of the party picked forms to contest in various positions such as; Mayor, Member of Parliament and LCV, respectively. Kato Jacob Mwesigwa, one of the aspiring member of parliament for Lwemiyaga, has informed the electorate that he is the solution. “I want to tell our people of Lwemiyaga that I am the solution to our problems. I urge them all to trust me with their votes, I won’t disappoint them. I’m here to work. Many people have been trying so much to make sure that Iam not nominated, but Iam thankful to God that I have been duly nominated,” he said.

The members who have been able to be nominated have appealed to their voters to vote for them. Majority of the aspirants, say that the rampant poverty, unemployment, among other issues, are the reasons why they have come out to contest. It should be noted that the president and the chairman of the party is going to pick his forms on Saturday. On the other hand, the National Unity Platform party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, has been duly nominated as the party flag bearer in the coming general elections. Kyagulanyi has told voters that this time round, all Ugandans must join him in the fight he is in to overthrew the current government.
