The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has invited the public to attend the 90th Annual Convention, which will take place in Kigezi from 20th to 24th August 2025. Speaking to journalists at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala, Archbishop Kaziimba announced that this year’s convention will be guided by the theme from Hebrews 12:1–2.
“I want to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to come to Kigezi in Rugarama to join fellow believers in prayer from 20th to 24th August,” said Archbishop Kaziimba.
He revealed that the chairperson of the organising committee is Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, assisted by Rt Hon Amama Mbabazi and other committee members. The Archbishop emphasised the significance of this year’s gathering, especially as Uganda approaches its general elections, and called on believers to pray for the nation.
Kaziimba also confirmed that a health camp will run alongside the convention to provide services to attendees. Delegates from neighbouring countries, including Rwanda and Kenya, are expected to participate.
“It has been 90 years since this convention began. We urge the public to support the organising committee by contributing towards the costs involved,” he added.
Dr Rugunda, the chairperson of the organising committee, described the East African Convention as a key event for Uganda and the region.
“This will be the ninth time the East African Convention is held. We urge everyone to come to Kigezi and pray over the five days. We are all equal before God, and this is the right time for us as a country to seek Him,” Rugunda said.
Former Prime Minister Rt Hon Amama Mbabazi assured the public that security will be tight throughout the five-day event to ensure the safety of all attendees. Organisers expect over 15,000 people to attend and have encouraged participants to arrive on time.
The total budget for the convention is estimated at 710 million Ugandan shillings to cover all expenses. Having transformed many lives over the years, the convention is expected to be a time of testimony and thanksgiving for God’s goodness.
