The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has invited all members of the public to gather in Kigezi for the 90th annual convention, which will run from August 20th to 24th, 2025. Speaking to journalists at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala, Archbishop Kazimba announced that this year’s convention will be guided by the theme from Hebrews 12:1-2.

“I want to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to come to Kigezi in Rugarama to join the believers and pray from 20th to 24th August,” Kazimba said.

He revealed that the chairman of the organizing committee is Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, assisted by Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi and other committee members. The Archbishop emphasized the importance of this year’s gathering as Uganda approaches its general elections, urging believers to pray for the nation.

Kazimba also confirmed that a health camp will run alongside the convention to provide services to attendees. Delegates from neighboring countries including Rwanda and Kenya are expected to attend.

“It has been 90 years since this convention started. We urge the public to support the organizing committee by contributing towards the costs we need to cover,” Kazimba added.

The chairman of the organizing committee, Dr. Rugunda, described the East African Convention as an important event for Uganda and the wider region.

“The East African Convention will be held for the ninth time. We urge everyone to come to Kigezi and pray for the five days. We are all equal before God and this is the right time for us as a country to seek Him,” Rugunda said.

Former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi assured the public that security will be tight throughout the five days to ensure the safety of all attendees. Organizers expect over 15,000 people to gather and have called on participants to arrive on time.

The total budget for the convention is estimated at 710 million Uganda Shillings to cover all expenses. The convention, which has transformed many lives over the years, is expected to be a time of testimony and thanksgiving for the goodness of God.
