The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the CHAN2024 tournament has updated the country about ongoing developments in Group C through its chairperson of the Communications and Signage Sub-committee, Dr. Dennis Mugimba, during a briefing at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.

Mugimba revealed that Uganda is hosting four national teams in Group C, namely Algeria, Niger, South Africa and Guinea, alongside the Uganda Cranes. He said that all the teams have played three games except Niger, who has played four. Uganda currently tops the group with six points, followed closely by Algeria and South Africa with five points each. He noted that Namboole Stadium will host only one remaining group fixture — Uganda versus South Africa — which he described as a crucial match where a positive result would secure Uganda a place in the quarterfinals.

The LOC expressed gratitude to fans and well-wishers for their strong support of the Cranes. Mugimba said that on average, 34,000 fans have filled Namboole Stadium whenever the Cranes have played. He disclosed that all tickets for the upcoming Uganda versus South Africa match, scheduled for Monday, were sold out by 6pm on Friday. He also cautioned the public against purchasing physical tickets, stressing that all legitimate CHAN2024 tickets for Uganda are being sold online. “Anyone purchasing physical tickets is either buying fake or duplicated tickets. Such tickets pose a security and safety risk and offenders will be apprehended,” he warned, urging fans to report such cases to the nearest police station.

To give more fans an opportunity to follow the tournament, the LOC announced the organization of fan parks on Monday, August 18, 2025, starting at 3pm. These will be located at Café Milano in Masindi, Kyadondo Rugby Ground in Kampala and Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere. The fan parks will feature live broadcasts of the Uganda versus South Africa game as well as entertainment from various artists, with free entry.

Meanwhile, the other Group C fixture between Algeria and Guinea will be played in Kenya at the same time as Uganda’s match. Mugimba concluded by wishing the Uganda Cranes success as they seek to qualify for the quarterfinals.
