The Electoral Commission regional office in Kampala has today continued with the nomination exercise for Mayors, Councillors, and District Chairpersons, with several candidates raising concerns about poor time management during the process.

A number of aspirants who spoke to the media expressed frustration, saying the Commission should improve its coordination to avoid delays.

Kabuye Ishaka, aspiring Councillor for Makindye West I, urged leaders who missed out on party tickets to join him in the effort to serve the people of Uganda. “I am going to work for the people of Uganda. Our mission is to take over the leadership of this country. I am thankful to my party for entrusting me with the ticket, and I promise not to disappoint,” he said.

Mubiru James, the current and aspiring Councillor for Rubaga on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, also expressed gratitude to his party. “I cannot claim to be the best candidate, as there are many vibrant people in the party. But I am thankful that they saw me as worthy. Under my leadership, I believe service delivery will improve and people will access what they need,” he noted.

From the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Nvanungi Richard, an aspiring Councillor, told journalists he was confident of victory due to his experience. Similarly, Kaggimu Lazarus appealed to voters to entrust him with the opportunity to serve.

Meanwhile, NUP’s aspiring Lord Mayor, Balimwezi Ronald, promised to prioritise road construction and the cleanliness of Kampala if elected. He also dismissed claims that party tickets were being sold. “In NUP, we do not allow bribery. We uphold transparency in everything we do. I received my card genuinely, and I believe others did too,” he stressed.

The nomination exercise is expected to close tomorrow unless the Electoral Commission announces an extension. The process has been ongoing in other districts across the country, with Kampala’s Ntinda regional office recording a good turnout despite persistent time management challenges.
