The Electoral Commission spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi, told the media that the commission is not prepared to postpone the nomination days, as there is no need for such a move.

On this final day of nominations, several candidates across the country have been nominated, with many pledging to serve the people in their respective electoral areas.

Bagonza Thomas said: “My focus will be on improving the well-being of those working in the city cleaning sector. I am humbled that my party, the National Peasants Party, has entrusted me with the flag to contest for this position. Initially, I intended to run for Member of Parliament for Kawempe South, but after thorough consultations with party leaders, I decided to change course. I kindly ask the people to vote for me so that I can represent them as Kawempe South Lord Councillor.”

Magala Hassan said: “I have come to work for the people of Kawempe, particularly to ensure that the youth in Kawempe North B are engaged in productive work. I also intend to work hard to keep the city clean and to ensure that our children attend school and benefit from government programmes. I belong to the People’s Front for Freedom.”

Kiconco Angella, an aspiring Lord Councillor for Rubaga II, told journalists that she intends to be a leader for the people and is ready to work with everyone, especially those committed to improving the lives of her constituents.

Meanwhile, the National Peasants Party today unveiled its presidential flag bearer for the forthcoming general elections at the party headquarters in Kampala.

Addressing the gathering, the party president, Hajjat Stecia Mayanja, said the decision had been unanimously supported by the party’s top leadership, who agreed to endorse Robert Kasibante as their candidate.

“This is a special day for the party. I thank all those who have trusted us and continue to support the party in various ways. We do not take your efforts for granted. We are confident that our flag bearer will perform very well,” she said.

Robert Kasibante, who has been declared the party’s presidential flag bearer, pledged to prioritise the needs of peasants across the country.

“I have come to work for the people of this nation, particularly the most vulnerable. Many thought we were playing games, but today we are beginning to fulfil the promises we made to the people of Uganda. I intend to improve the health system and will rely on my experience in creating jobs. Our agenda is to ensure that Uganda achieves middle-income status. I also call upon our colleagues in other political parties, especially those denied tickets, to join us so that we can help them realise their political aspirations. I urge all Ugandans to vote for me and for other candidates of our party in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
