The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, has confirmed the dates for the nomination exercise for Division Chairpersons, Mayors, and Councillors, as candidates continue to declare their intentions during the ongoing process.

At the Commission headquarters in Kampala yesterday, Byabakama addressed the media, noting that nominations are progressing steadily across the country.

In Lubya A, aspiring councillor Nabatanzi Aidah, after being nominated, pledged to build on her previous service.

“Having served my people in the previous term, especially women, I am committed to ensuring they receive the service delivery they deserve. This is not my first time representing them, and I will use my experience to continue providing effective representation,” she said.

Similarly, Kiza Joseph, aspiring councillor for Kasubi, said his six years of experience as a secretary would guide him in ensuring that the people of Kasubi receive the services they deserve.

Namutebi Betty, aspiring woman councillor for Kabowa, also expressed her determination to serve. She revealed that, although she was denied the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag, her constituents urged her to contest as an independent.

“I have come to be used by God because I believe I can bring change to our area. I cannot promise too much, but I am confident that much can be achieved if I am given the opportunity to serve,” Namutebi said.

Meanwhile, in Kasubi C, aspiring councillor Wassajja Ggulu urged voters to trust him for better service delivery, stressing that no one else could serve them more effectively.

In another development, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) tribunal has nullified the victory of Tanga Collins as Youth Chairperson of the party’s Youth League, citing a conflict of interest. Collins, son of NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi, rejected the ruling but vowed to contest again.

“I thank the tribunal for delivering the ruling in time. However, I do not agree with it. I will contest again, and I believe I will win,” Collins said.

The tribunal directed the NRM Electoral Commission to organise fresh elections for the Youth League, adding that Dr Odoi should not preside over the process. Collins’ victory had been challenged by Kiconco Brenda.
