The NRM party elections ushered in a new CEC—NRM’s top organ responsible for making key party decisions.

However, polls for the Youth League and Entrepreneurs’ League were not conducted during the conference after chaos marred the youth elections. The party’s Electoral Commission announced that these particular elections would instead be held today at district level, following the tribunal’s decision to nullify the earlier process after a petition by candidate Ciconco Brenda.

The Commission also confirmed that its Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, would not participate in supervising the exercise since one of the contestants, Tanga Collins, is his biological son.

Amidst the developments, youth candidate Mackline Natukwasa expressed gratitude to her supporters for standing by her throughout the process.

“I would love to extend my sincere thanks to you all for the tremendous support you’ve shown me. In a special way, I thank the Mitooma District Youths for the trust from grassroots up to where I am. Your kind support has not only raised me but also raised our mighty district’s flag,” she said.

Natukwasa, who chairs the National Association of Youth Councillors (NAYOC), further thanked youth organizations including the National Youth Council, UNSA, and delegates across the country, adding that financial, moral, and spiritual support from well-wishers has kept her campaign strong.

She now faces off against Tanga Collins, Ciconco Brenda, Jacob (the current youth leader), and others in what is expected to be a heated contest.

Meanwhile, several youths have voiced concerns about the high costs of participation, saying the process favors those with more resources. But NRM spokesperson Emmanuel Dombo defended the system, stressing that it helps the party save money and would not be altered.
