The long-awaited day for aspiring Members of Parliament to be nominated across the country officially came to pass yesterday. According to the Electoral Commission, the first day of the exercise was successful.
In Katakwi District, the Vice President and National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag bearer, Hon. Jesca Alupo, was successfully nominated for the position of District Woman Member of Parliament. After her nomination, she promised to continue advocating for the girl child and implementing the NRM manifesto. However, she acknowledged that she would have to work hard to realize these goals since her opponents are also determined.
In other parts of the country, candidates made various promises to the electorate.
Betty Ethel Naluyima, the current Woman Member of Parliament for Wakiso District, after being nominated at the district headquarters, told her supporters that she is optimistic about retaining her seat because she has fulfilled her role in Parliament and believes she deserves to return to complete unfinished business.
“I have offered myself again to lobby for the people of Wakiso and to make sure that we get what we deserve,” she said.
Others nominated for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Wakiso District include Nabatanzi Joan of the PFF party, Mpamulungi Irene (Independent), Rose Kirabira (Independent, with the megaphone as her symbol), Nakyanja Annet of the Democratic Front (DF) party, and Najjemba Joreen of the FDC party. Najjemba, 20, had earlier attempted to contest for the presidency but was not successfully nominated. All candidates expressed confidence that, if given the opportunity to represent the women of Wakiso District in Parliament, they would deliver effectively.
Similarly, candidates aspiring for the position of Direct Member of Parliament for Entebbe were also duly nominated and pledged to address the challenges in their respective areas. They include Kayanja Vincent (DP), Shaka Steven (NRM), Jane Scolastica (Independent, symbol – megaphone), Yusufu Golooba (Independent), Nantumbwe Irene, Nabata Joyce (NUP), and the incumbent Hon. Kakembo Michael (DF).
In Kira Municipality, aspiring Members of Parliament include Ibrahim Semujju Nganda (PFF), Patrick Katuramu, George Musisi (NUP), Bright Nuwagaba—who promised to restore the dignity of Kira through better service delivery—and Kananura Daniel (NRM), who expressed optimism of winning due to his experience and love for his people, among others.
Addressing the media yesterday, the Returning Officer for Wakiso District, Tolbert Musinguzi, commended the aspirants for their good conduct and reminded them not to engage in campaigns before 10th November 2025.
According to Musinguzi, a total of 42 candidates were duly nominated for various constituencies including District Woman Member of Parliament, Busiro East, Nansana Municipality, Entebbe, Makindye-Ssabagabo, and Kira Municipality. He expects over 26 additional nominations today from areas such as Busiro East and Busiro South.
It should be noted that this nomination exercise will be concluded today, and polling day is set for 15th January 2026. Security authorities continue to remind candidates to abide by the electoral guidelines. Detained Waiswa Mufumbiro is among those successfully nominated.
