The Electoral Commission (EC), through its spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, has announced that the nomination exercise for aspiring Members of Parliament across the country has been successfully conducted.

Mucunguzi said that according to reports received from various parts of Uganda, the exercise was peaceful and well-organized. He, however, cautioned candidates who have been duly nominated not to begin campaigning yet, reminding them that the official campaign period has not started.

“The EC wants to thank all candidates who have been duly nominated. We also thank EC staff across the country for their commitment and the security officers for ensuring peace throughout the exercise. We urge nominated candidates not to start campaigning before the official period, which runs from November 10, 2025, to January 13, 2026,” Mucunguzi said.

While addressing the media at Wakiso District headquarters, the Returning Officer, Tolbert Musinguzi, confirmed that the process was largely successful despite a few minor challenges which were resolved.

“The exercise has been successful. We have duly nominated over 81 candidates in total. We only had a small issue where one candidate wanted to use a symbol that had already been taken by another who came earlier. I want to emphasize that the returning officer is the only authority to decide who takes which symbol, based on a first-come, first-served basis. The issue was resolved,” he said.

“No candidate is allowed to campaign before November 10, 2025. We shall hold a meeting with candidates and security officials to ensure that the campaign period is conducted peacefully,” he added.

Those nominated in Wakiso District include Munduni Phillip (Makindye-Ssabagabo), Tom Muwonge, Khalid Ssimbwa, incumbent Muwada Nkunyingi, and Taremwa Christopher, all vying for Kyadondo East. In Busiro South County, the aspirants include Kayemba Joseph and Ndagire Lilian, while in Busiro North, they include Senfuma Kalooli and Swaib Kaggwa, among others.

The candidates, drawn from various political parties and some independents, pledged to fulfill the duties of Members of Parliament and address issues affecting their constituencies, including land grabbing, health, education, and unemployment.

Meanwhile, in Bukedea District, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, was declared unopposed for the Woman Member of Parliament seat. She thanked her party and voters for entrusting her with another term of service.
