Residents of Kakiri Town Council in Wakiso District have expressed anger towards the government over the persistent lack of clean water in their area. They accuse the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) of neglecting some parts of the community, saying that while the corporation extends water services to other areas, their neighborhoods remain without safe water.
The residents raised their complaints during a meeting with Kakiri Town Council mayoral aspirant, George Ismail Kamoga, at his home. They presented their grievances and appealed to him to prioritize the issue of water access if he wins the 2026 election.
Some residents lamented that apart from water shortages, they have also been exploited by moneylenders, while local leaders have failed to intervene or offer lasting solutions.
In response, Kamoga assured the residents that he is committed to addressing their concerns, promising to find ways to improve water access in the area. He noted that some parts of Kakiri, such as Nayikondo, which had previously faced water system breakdowns, have already started receiving attention, and new water points have been installed.
Kamoga further encouraged the people of Kakiri and the greater Busiro North area to work together by forming development groups to foster self-reliance and community progress.
He also urged the youth not to despise the jobs they do, but instead to focus on improving their skills and productivity as a means of fighting poverty. Additionally, he cautioned them against selling off their land to buy motorcycles, saying such decisions only lead to long-term financial hardship.
