Ivan Ssenono, the Health Assistant at Nansana Health Centre II, has revealed that the facility at Nabweru is recording an increasing number of cervical cancer cases.
Speaking during a health talk show on 102.5 Tigers FM, Ssenono explained that cervical cancer is mainly spread through vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone infected with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
He urged the public, especially young people, to abstain from early sexual activities, noting that it is one of the major factors contributing to the spread of the disease.
Ssenono advised the community to take preventive measures such as regular cervical screening, vaccination against HPV, avoiding smoking, and limiting the number of sexual partners. He also encouraged people to take regular medical tests to prevent other sexually transmitted infections.
He further appealed to parents to take their children for cervical cancer vaccination, which is available at all government health facilities.
