Representing the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja, the Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajat Minsa Kabanda, this morning flagged off the Kampala Archdiocese Youth Apostolate Run at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nansana Division, Nansana Municipality. The event, organized and hosted by Rev. Fr. Dominic Mwebe, parish head, was held under the theme “Youth as Agents of Environmental Conservation and Development.”
Minister Kabanda commended the parish for nurturing youth in faith, noting that religion plays a key role in shaping moral values regardless of denomination. She urged youth to love God and their country, emphasizing that patriotism and prayer bring wisdom and development.
Delivering the Prime Minister’s message, Kabanda called for environmental conservation, stressing that cutting trees and neglecting reforestation are major causes of floods experienced globally and locally. She encouraged communities to plant trees and shift from charcoal to gas for cooking.
The event was also graced by the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala, and the Deputy RDC of Nansana Municipality. Gen. Katumba condemned the careless disposal of polythene and garbage, saying it leads to blocked waterways and flooding. He appealed to the public to maintain cleanliness both at home and workplaces, citing roadside vendors as key actors in keeping their surroundings tidy.
He commended Rev. Fr. Dominic for his developmental initiatives at the parish and promised to facilitate the construction of a zebra crossing on Hoima Road to ensure safe crossing for youth and parishioners.
The Deputy RDC, Charles Lwanga, urged residents to remain vigilant as the festive season and election period approach, warning that such times can attract criminal activities.
