The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Sharifa Buzeki, has outlined the authority’s achievements and future plans during her end-of-year address held at the Lord Mayor’s Parlour in Kampala.
Buzeki said that when she assumed office together with her deputy, Benon Kigenyi, they found several challenges, including the crisis at Kitezi landfill and persistent garbage accumulation in the city. She noted that KCCA has since secured 10 acres of land in Buyala, Mpigi District, to address waste management concerns. She added that the affected persons in Kitezi will collectively receive compensation amounting to 4.3 billion shillings.
On education, Buzeki revealed that new classrooms have been constructed at Nakivubo Blue Primary School, while renovations have been carried out in several other schools across the city. She further disclosed that within six months, KCCA has collected Uganda Shillings 69 billion in revenue out of the 132 billion shillings annual target.
Despite the progress, she acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly in garbage collection due to the limited number of trucks. She said KCCA plans to engage the government to increase funding for road rehabilitation.
“I thank and urge journalists to report accurately,” Buzeki said.
Addressing concerns raised by traders affected by recent floods, Buzeki explained that KCCA has compiled a report, and following proposed amendments from the traders, she is scheduled to meet them. She added that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni confirmed that the affected traders will receive support. She asked traders to remain patient as the compensation process continues, noting that payments are likely to start as early as tomorrow through their respective bank accounts.
On market infrastructure, Buzeki said Busega Market has 200 stalls, while Kitintale Market is still under construction, with optimism that it will be completed in 2026. She also highlighted ongoing road works, stating that about 80 kilometres of roads are currently under construction or have already been completed. These include Kabaka’s Lake Road, Kisenyi Road, Sebaana Road, among others.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Shumuk Group of Companies, Mukesh Shukla, is among the business leaders recognized for employing young people in 2025, a move that has contributed to reducing unemployment, especially in Kampala District.
In a news interview conducted in Kampala, which focused on investors, entrepreneurs, and business people promoting youth employment regardless of education level, one of the employees, Ritah Nyangoma (not real name), praised her employer for his inclusive approach.
“I want to thank my boss, Mr. Mukesh Shukla, also known as Shumuk, for giving me an opportunity to serve my country through Forex Bureau services. I am not highly educated, but he designed a system that accommodates people like me. I am very humbled and believe he is the best boss. I look forward to continuing my service in 2026. I also thank our customers because without them, we would not have achieved what we have,” she said.

Other business figures recognized for their contribution to employment creation include Hamis Kiggundu and Sudhir Ruparelia, among others.
