All Ugandans have been urged to strengthen efforts to protect the environment by avoiding activities that destroy it, such as cutting down trees, constructing buildings in wetlands, burning bushes, and related practices.
The President General of the political party Congress Services Volunteers, Sadam Bisase Zakaria, made these remarks while speaking to our reporter. He noted that environmental degradation is the main cause of the changing and unstable weather conditions currently being experienced in Uganda. He explained that farmers are now facing confusion over farming seasons, a situation that could lead to hunger and poverty among Ugandans.
Zakaria Bisase encouraged Ugandans to adopt alternative cooking methods, saying that the biggest cause of tree destruction is the cutting of trees for firewood and charcoal burning. He called on the public to embrace the use of gas for cooking and energy-saving stoves that consume less firewood. He also urged the government to put in place mechanisms that would make cooking gas affordable and accessible to everyone at a very low cost.
He further explained that the government could utilize the large amounts of waste collected in cities to generate cooking gas. He appealed to the Government of Uganda to move in line with global trends, emphasizing that this is the right time for Ugandans to transition to gas cooking so that trees are preserved and the environment protected.
He also condemned the actions of some investors who are constructing factories in wetlands, saying that such activities have contributed to floods that continue to disrupt the lives of people across the country.
