The Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs and aspiring Member of Parliament for Kampala Central, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, together with other leaders, has confirmed readiness to welcome the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer and President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, as he begins his Kampala campaign tours starting 5 January 2026.
Addressing the media in Kampala, Kabanda said President Museveni has a strong development agenda for the capital city and pledged that, if given another term, he will do more, especially in infrastructure development and service delivery. She called on residents of Kampala to turn up in large numbers for the NRM presidential rallies scheduled from 5 to 12 January 2026, with the final rally to be held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Kabanda praised the president for maintaining peace and security, redeveloping the country and investing in infrastructure, urging Kampala residents to attend the rallies to thank him for his leadership. She encouraged voters to support Museveni in the 15 January 2026 elections, extending Christmas and New Year greetings to the public. She also appealed to members of other political parties, including the Democratic Party, which she noted has no presidential candidate, to join in supporting Museveni.
Support was also echoed by the chairman of the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators (UTOF), Rashid Sekindi, who was accompanied by his deputy for administration, Mayambala Mustafa. Sekindi urged taxi drivers and conductors to vote for President Museveni, saying he understands their challenges and has consistently supported their work.
He appealed for calm during the election period, advising drivers and conductors to return to their stages after voting and avoid violence. Sekindi emphasized that life and work must continue beyond election day, reminding them of their responsibility to their families and the nation, and wished Ugandans a peaceful festive season and New Year.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Nsooba Slaughter House in Kalerwe, Kampala, Sekanyo Suleiman, noted a decline in customers compared to previous Christmas seasons. He attributed the low turnout to financial hardships faced by many families. Suleiman said about 230 cows had been slaughtered so far and assured the public that the meat on sale is affordable, safe and properly inspected.
He explained that all meat is stamped and approved for consumption, adding that any unsafe meat is destroyed and never sold to customers. He encouraged residents to buy meat for their families during the festive season and wished them a Merry Christmas.

Dorah Nakia, a leader of the Federation of Substitutes, also joined the call, urging traders to attend the NRM campaigns in Kampala and to support President Museveni in the upcoming elections.
