The Chairman of the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators (UTOF), Rashid Sekindi, has congratulated National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairman and president-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa on securing a seventh term as President of Uganda.
Speaking during a media briefing in Kampala, Sekindi said that despite the various opinions expressed about the president, the federation is grateful to God that their candidate retained the presidency.
He described feeling overwhelmed with joy following President Museveni’s victory in the recently concluded general elections, noting that the win was well-earned and the result of hard work. Sekindi added that the president’s nationwide tours enabled him to understand the challenges faced by people in remote areas, expressing confidence that these issues would be addressed during the upcoming term, which begins in May. He thanked all Ugandans who voted for the president and assured them that they would not regret their decision.
Sekindi further called on Ugandans to resume work now that the elections are concluding, particularly those who travelled to villages to participate in the voting process. He emphasised the need to work hard as children prepare to return to school, enabling parents and guardians to adequately support the new term.
Commenting on other elected leaders, Sekindi urged them to focus on improving the livelihoods of the people who entrusted them with leadership. He encouraged them to use their authority responsibly and to support citizens in accessing and benefiting from government programmes.
Meanwhile, several newly declared district leaders have pledged to serve their electorates diligently. Ian Kyeyune of the NRM, declared winner of the Wakiso District Chairperson position, thanked voters and promised to work hard for the people of Wakiso District through job creation for youth, road construction, and other development initiatives. Kyeyune has previously served in the same position.
However, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer for Wakiso District Chairperson, Najja Nasif, rejected the announced results, insisting that he was the rightful winner and does not accept the declaration.
In Mukono District, the NUP flagbearer Muyanja Ssenyonga, declared winner of the district chairperson position, thanked voters and pledged to work for the people of Mukono District.
Similarly, Florence Namayanja, declared winner for the position of Mayor of Masaka City, said she will continue working for development and expressed appreciation to all voters who supported her, enabling her to reclaim her seat.
