The Chairman of the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators (UTOF), Rashid Sekindi, has congratulated National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairman and president-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa upon securing a seventh term as President of Uganda.

Speaking during a media briefing in Kampala, Sekindi said that despite the many opinions expressed about the president, the federation is grateful to God that their candidate retained the presidency.

He said he was overwhelmed with joy following the victory of President Museveni in the just concluded general elections, noting that the win was worked for and well deserved. Sekindi added that the president’s nationwide tours enabled him to understand the challenges faced by people in remote areas, expressing confidence that these issues will be addressed in the coming term, which begins in May this year. He thanked all Ugandans who voted for the president and assured them that they would not regret their decision.

Sekindi further called on Ugandans to fully resume work now that the elections are coming to an end, especially those who traveled to villages to participate in the voting process. He emphasized the need to work hard as children are set to return to school, so that parents and guardians can adequately prepare for the new school term.

Commenting on other elected leaders, Sekindi urged them to focus on transforming the livelihoods of the people who entrusted them with leadership. He encouraged them to use their authority responsibly and to support citizens in engaging with and benefiting from government programs.

Meanwhile, several newly declared district leaders have pledged to serve their electorates diligently. Ian Kyeyune of the NRM, who was declared winner of the Wakiso District Chairperson position, thanked voters and promised to work hard for the people of Wakiso District through job creation for the youth, construction of roads, and other development initiatives. Kyeyune has previously served in the same position.

However, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for Wakiso District Chairperson, Najja Nasif, rejected the announced results, insisting that he was the rightful winner and that he does not agree with the declaration.

In Mukono District, the National Unity Platform flag bearer, Muyanja Ssenyonga, who was declared winner for the district chairperson position, thanked voters and pledged to work for the people of Mukono District.

Similarly, Florence Namayanja, who was declared winner for the position of Mayor of Masaka City, said she will continue working for development and appreciated all voters who supported her, enabling her to reclaim her seat.
