In an effort to support the public, particularly its customers, MTN Uganda has launched a promotion aimed at easing the burden of school fees for parents across the country. Under the promotion, lucky winners will have their children’s school fees paid for a full year, while selected schools will also have the chance to win school vans.

The promotion was officially launched in Kampala, where MTN Uganda confirmed that it has already been paying school fees for winners in various parts of the country and will continue to do so throughout the campaign period. During the launch, several winners were awarded full-year school fees for their children, while others received shopping vouchers worth UGX 100,000.

Fred Mugambe from MTN Uganda explained how the promotion works.

“As MTN Uganda, we have officially launched the school fees campaign, giving our customers a chance to win school fees for a full year. This time, we have also considered schools, as they have expressed that they do not benefit from using MoMo Pay. We have therefore decided to reward schools with school vans. We encourage parents to pay school fees using MoMo Pay and stand a chance to win. This promotion will be rolled out across Uganda. Additionally, we offer a school fees loan which customers can use and repay later, at very affordable rates,” Mugambe said.

He further revealed that MTN Uganda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators (UTOF) to support digital payments in the transport sector.

“Following our MoU with UTOF, we will provide merchant codes to taxi drivers so passengers wishing to use MoMo Pay can do so. This service will be free of charge. Taxi drivers will not be charged when withdrawing money, up to a daily limit of UGX 500,000. We therefore encourage Ugandans to join MTN Uganda,” he added.

The Chairman of UTOF, Rashid Sekindi, welcomed the partnership and thanked MTN Uganda for the collaboration.

“I want to thank MTN Uganda for working with us, and I also thank my fellow federation leaders for speaking with one voice. MTN Uganda has provided lighting in our taxi parks, and we do not take that for granted. We hope this relationship continues to benefit both parties. Once again, we promise to continue working with MTN Uganda because they are good partners,” Sekindi said.

Some of the MTN Uganda customers who won full-year school fees expressed their gratitude and encouraged the public to participate in the promotion, noting its authenticity.
Toney Magomu and Ssenkatuuka Emmanuel are among the beneficiaries whose children’s school fees were paid for an entire year.

“I am overwhelmed because when they first called me, I thought it was a scam. I was surprised when I realised it was real. I want to thank MTN Uganda for this promotion and encourage everyone to participate because it is genuine. My daughter is in Senior Two, and her school fees for the whole year have been paid. We are very grateful,” Magomu said.
