Professor Lawrence Muganga, Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, has celebrated the invaluable role of women in society during today’s International Women’s Day event at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Scaling Up Investments to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls in Uganda.”

In his message, Professor Muganga described women as the foundation of communities, highlighting their selfless contributions to families, education, leadership, and national development.

“It’s that time of the year when we remember the very important people in our lives—the women in our families, our country, and our world. But it’s not enough to simply remember them for a day. Having been raised by an incredible mother, I believe her passion and spirit live in me today—that is the power of a woman,” he said.

He further acknowledged women’s pivotal role in nurturing and guiding society, from raising children to contributing to national progress.

“From the time when we are nothing to the time when we become something, women are there for us. If you are a woman, a girl, a mother, or a grandmother, whatever you do, know that we appreciate you. You are our heroes. We cherish you, we love you, and we adore you. You deserve respect all the time—24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” Professor Muganga added.

He extended warm International Women’s Day wishes to the women of Victoria University, to those across Uganda, and to women around the world, encouraging continued recognition of their strength, resilience, and leadership.

International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8th March, honours women’s achievements and promotes gender equality worldwide.
