All women in the country have been encouraged to take the lead in the campaign to protect the environment, especially by teaching their children about the dangers of destroying forests, rivers, wetlands, and other elements that sustain nature.

Nalongo Nansamba, the President General of traditional herbalists in the country, made the remarks during the Buganda Women’s Day celebrations held in Mawokota County at Buwama grounds in Mpigi District. She urged women to play a strong role in protecting the environment in Uganda.

She noted that many things that support life in the country, including herbs used in traditional medicine, come from nature. However, she expressed concern that these natural resources are increasingly being destroyed.

Nalongo Nasamba further called on mothers to educate their children about the importance of protecting forests, rivers, and lakes, and to discourage practices that damage the environment so that the country can continue to prosper and remain the Pearl of Africa.

She also thanked women who continue to uphold traditional culture and herbal medicine, saying that the world has now started recognizing the important contribution they make to society.

Nansamba also encouraged women to participate in leadership and decision-making positions instead of remaining silent, so that African traditions and cultural values can regain their rightful place as intended by God.
