Lucky Kids Academy in Bweyogerere, Nakawa Division, has received a brand-new school van after emerging the first winner in an ongoing promotion by MTN Mobile Money Uganda Limited.

The van was officially handed over yesterday by Jemima Kariuki-Njuguna, the Chief Product Officer, on behalf of the company. The event took place at the school premises and attracted staff, learners, and parents.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kariuki-Njuguna congratulated the school upon their win and commended them for consistently using MTN MoMo services. She reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting its customers and enhancing digital payment solutions.

The promotion, recently launched by MTN MoMo, targets schools and parents who use the platform for school fees payments. Under the campaign, schools stand a chance to win prizes such as school vans, while learners who pay fees through the system can win full-year school fees sponsorship.

The school’s director, Hajjat Fatumah Nandawula, described the moment as historic and emotional. She expressed gratitude to MTN MoMo and to Allah for what she termed as an unexpected blessing.

“I am overwhelmed with joy. We are so thankful to MTN MoMo for choosing us, but above all, we thank the Almighty Allah who made this possible,” she said.

Nandawula revealed that she initially doubted the news after receiving a phone call informing her of the win, suspecting it could be a scam due to past experiences. However, after verifying the contact through online sources, the school confirmed the authenticity of the information.

She noted that the van will greatly support the school’s operations, especially in transporting learners for co-curricular activities, as the institution currently relies on external facilities such as Naalya Secondary School for sports.

The headteacher, Ivan Waligo, also shared his excitement, stating that while the school adopted MTN MoMo for convenience, winning was not their primary goal.

He further requested the provision of a merchant code to enable parents to conveniently pay for additional school services such as trips and other activities, a request that the MTN MoMo team agreed to fulfill.

The initiative is part of MTN MoMo’s broader strategy to promote cashless transactions in schools while rewarding loyal users across the country.
