The Ruparelia family, led by Sudhir Ruparelia, in partnership with Victoria University Uganda, has organized a free eye care camp in Bukedea District, attracting thousands of residents seeking treatment.

The camp, held in memory of the late Rajiv Ruparelia, who passed away last year, provided free consultations, medication, surgeries, and eye care services to vulnerable communities.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Ruparelia family, noting that many could not afford such specialized treatment. One patient shared that he had struggled with a persistent eye condition and had been referred to private facilities he could not afford, but now has renewed hope after receiving proper diagnosis and medication.

“I want to thank Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia and the entire team for bringing this help to us. Eye problems are becoming common here, and many of us cannot afford treatment. I now believe I will recover if I follow the doctor’s instructions,” the patient said.

Medical experts at the camp raised concern over the rising number of eye-related illnesses in the region. According to the doctors, over 33 percent of the patients examined require surgical intervention, highlighting a growing but largely unnoticed eye care crisis.

The camp has already recorded life-changing outcomes, including an 11-year-old boy who regained his sight, while hundreds of others have received free surgeries and corrective glasses.

During the launch of the initiative weeks ago, the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, commended the Ruparelia family for their continued support to the people of Bukedea and pledged government support towards the initiative.

The Rajiv Ruparelia Eye Camp continues to offer hope to many, as efforts to combat preventable blindness and improve access to eye care services gain momentum in the region.
