The treasurer of the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators, William Katumba, has appealed to taxi drivers across the country to avoid overspeeding during this busy travel period of Holy Week.

He noted that increased movement of people calls for greater caution on the roads.

He said they have engaged taxi drivers and urged them not to overspeed and to maintain discipline on the road, adding that road users should consider others, especially pedestrians.

At the same time, the vice chairman of the New Taxi Park, Joseph Sekitoleko, confirmed that there are no plans to increase transport fares despite the high demand during the period. He explained that operators understand the financial challenges facing many passengers and are willing to maintain current prices.

Sekitoleko also revealed that owners of older taxis have been engaged and have agreed to comply with government requirements following recent guidance from the Ministry of Works regarding old vehicles.
