Heroes Day celebrations – President Museveni reaffirms government’s commitment to protect Ugandans

The president of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni and First lady, who also serves as the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, have graced today’s 36th Heroes Day celebrations that was held in Lyantonde District, under the Theme “The legacy and ideals of our Heroes, a memorable inspiration.” The event was been attended by several ministers, members of parliament, religious leaders, cultural leaders, among others.

In his address to the people who gathered at Kaliro town council, Lyantonde District, the president emphasized government’s willingness to protect Ugandans and their properties. The president said that his government managed to overcome the murderers who were using pangas to kill Ugandans in Masaka because of the good collaboration of the security personnel these people were defeated and the people of Masaka are now living peacefully.

The president continued to state that cattle farmers should learn how to grow their own pastures and not depend only on that which provided by God. Museveni assured Ugandans that he anytime from now will issue a detailed statement concerning land issues in the country. Those who supported them in the war, the president committed to continue supporting them through the ministry of Luwero Triangle which he said should find out the need of those people and see how they can help them. “If they can build themselves a house, but can’t buy iron sheets, the ministry should lend them a hand and also buy them cement.” he said.

The speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, concerning Heroes Day, said that they deserve to be honored. “We honour the many brave Ugandans whose sacrifice have ensured the peace and stability we enjoy today. We also recognize those who continue to significantly contribute to transforming lives across our nation,” she said. The vice chancellor of Victoria University, Dr. Lawrence Muganga, also said that those who built Uganda through courage and sacrifice deserve to be respected. And that at Victoria University, they are nurturing a new generation of heroes and leaders to Uganda and the world.

In the same spirit, the deputy speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa also stated that the heroes sacrificed their lives and endured physical hardships for the betterment of Uganda. “They fought for a greater good. Lets protect the current peace, join the war against poverty, and embrace community service by helping those in need,” he said.
