PM Nabbanja, Tayebwa, Ruth Aceng, Gen. Ali duly nominated

Following the completion of the expression of interest exercise for various positions in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, the party’s Electoral Commission has today launched the next phase of the process—nominating members who fulfilled the requirements as stipulated by the NRM Electoral Commission. This exercise, taking place at the party headquarters in Kyadondo, Kampala, began on 2nd June 2025 and ended on 14th June 2025. At least 2,000 members participated, and over Uganda Shillings 4 billion was collected.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, after being nominated, thanked the party’s Electoral Commission for organising a successful exercise. Tayebwa, who was accompanied by his wife, also expressed optimism about his chances of winning. He encouraged party members to remain united and not to let the elections divide them, emphasising that it is a temporary exercise and they all need each other for the continued growth of the party.

Similarly, the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, was also nominated and expressed confidence in winning the Kakumiro district Woman Member of Parliament seat. General Moses Ali, the Second Deputy Prime Minister, was duly nominated to continue representing his constituents.

Other nominees include:

• Hon. Hanifah Kawooya, Minister of State for Health (General Duties)
• Hon. Beatrice Anywar, State Minister for Water and Environment
• Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Minister of Health and Woman Member of Parliament for Lira district

Speaking to journalists after the nomination, Dr. Aceng assured her constituents that she will represent them diligently and address their challenges.

All members who picked nomination forms have been duly nominated. Each of them called on voters to support them in the upcoming elections. Among those nominated were Mayors, District Chairpersons (LCV), and Members of Parliament.

It should be noted that all parliamentary aspirants paid a non-refundable nomination fee of Uganda Shillings 3 million, while those aspiring for Mayor and LCV positions each paid Uganda Shillings 1 million.

According to the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the nomination process will officially close on 30th June 2025.
