The president of Uganda and the chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Yoweri Museveni, yesterday at the party headquarters in Kyadondo Kampala, picked forms to express interest in two positions, namely; NRM presidential flag bearer and chairman of the party respectively. Since 2nd June 2025, the members of the party have been participating in this exercise. According to the party Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi, the members who wish to be on the Central Executive Committee, will also proceed with the exercise and then return the forms, including the president, not later than 4th July 2025.
Mr Tanga has been always telling the general public that the supreme party organ, in 2019, decided that president Museveni will be their flag bearer in the fourth coming elections. “The Central Executive Committee (CEC) in 2019, decided that president Museveni, who is also the chairman of the party, will be the party flag presidential bearer in 2021 and beyond. And it should be like that, until I receive other statement concerning the same. But for now, that decision, stands,” he said. Tanga, thanked the president for honoring the the party system and picked the forms by himself. Because, according to Tanga, Museveni had a right, maybe to delegate due to his busy schedule but he didn’t do so. He advised other party members who took the forms, to return them before the deadline and reaffirmed that the electoral commission is not willing to extend more days after 30th Junes 2025.
Museveni in his address, thanked the National Resistance Movement party Electoral Commission, led by Dr Tanga Odoi, for the great organization, and for making sure that the programs of the party’s elections, move smoothly. “I want to thank the NRM Electoral Commission for this work. Since 1985, Uganda has progressed through five stages of development and the NRM aims for the country to become a 500 billion dollars economy in the next five years,” Museveni said. The event was graced by various supporters of the party. Some we managed to talk to, said that they are ready to give president Museveni another term to lead the country because he is the one who can manage the issues of this country. “My name is Christopher Kyobe aspiring LCV chairman for Buikwe district. I thank president Museveni for what he has done for the party and I request my people to vote for him and me to gain much more from government,” he said.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of parliament, Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, was pleased with the turn-up of the people when they were launching their new political party, the Democratic Front (DF), in Masaka City. “To all our esteemed guests, supporters, and party faithful who turned up from across the country to join us at Laston Gardens in Masaka City for the official launch, thank you. This was a significant milestone in our quest for real change in our motherland,” he said. Many people, however, say that Mpuuga shouldn’t have started a new party but rather reconcile with the National Unity Platform which he left months ago.
