The Electoral Commission Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Dr. Tanga Odoi, while addressing the media, today at the party Electoral Commission headquarters in Kyadondo, Kampala, confirmed that they have so far nominated about 2800 members of the party to contest for various positions namely; member of Parliament, Mayor and LCV respectively. Tanga, thanked the members for expressing interest, and urged members who wish to stand for positions of national party chairman and presidential flag bearer, to wait until Friday this week when their forms will be ready. The Chairperson also reaffirmed that no member will be refunded the money in case of anything.
“Today, we have closed officially for the members who wish to stand for member of Parliament, LCV and Mayor. We thank the members who have been able to turn up in big numbers, this shows that NRM party is still strong in this country. For the issue of those wishing to stand for national chairman and frag bearer, we shall have their forms ready on Friday this week at midday. I want to remind those who wish to stand on those positions to remember that the Central Executive Committee (CEC), decided that candidate Museveni should be a sole candidate in 2021 and beyond. I have never received any information informing me that the decision was changed, but as the Electoral Commission, we are ready to receive whoever wishes to stand for those positions but the money paid is nonrefundable,” he said.
According to the Electoral Commission of the party, the members who have so far expressed interest for (CEC), are 234. It should be remembered that members who picked forms paid a non refundable fee of Uganda Shillings 3 million for member of Parliament, Uganda Shillings 1.5 million for Mayor and LCV. The four members who were unable to be nominated today, the chairperson has confirmed that they will be nominated after getting all the necessary documents.
Meanwhile, the party members who have been nominated have appealed to the electorate to vote for them, because they are the ones with the ability to lead the stated areas. Eng. Adrian Lukyamuzi, aspiring member of parliament for Busiro South Constituency has pledged to promote wealth in the constituency. Mokesh Shumuko, has also been duly nominated and promised to promote the issues of the business community in the parliament once given the opportunity to represent the people of Nakawa West constituency. The exercise for (CEC), will be concluded on Saturday, and president Museveni, will be the one to end the exercise. Tanga has confirmed that as electoral Commission, they are not going to postpone for the completed exercise. Hon. Fred Byabakama has also been nominated and promised to represent his people well
