The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Dr Tanga Odoi, has announced that no party member nominated to contest in the forthcoming internal elections is allowed to use musicians during campaign activities.
Speaking to members of the media on Wednesday at the NRM party headquarters in Kyadondo, Kampala, Dr Odoi said that all candidates are expected to follow party guidelines and conduct joint campaigns as agreed.
“We want to tell our candidates that campaigns must be conducted jointly. No member is allowed to take musicians to villages for campaign activities, as this disrupts the official programme,” Dr Odoi said.
He also revealed that the nomination process had been postponed to 17th July 2025. Those intending to contest for the position of National Chairperson will collect nomination forms when they become available.
Meanwhile, Adrine Kobusingye, who was nominated to contest for the position of National Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League, said she is committed to addressing women’s issues within the party and ensuring they are effectively handled.
Several aspirants for positions on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) have pledged to work for the party and support President Yoweri Museveni to retain leadership of the country and regain dominance in the central region.
Philip Kakuru, Senior Presidential Advisor on Trade, has also been nominated to contest for the position of Chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneur League. Speaking to the media, he promised to advocate for traders to receive proper representation.
“As Kakuru, I am going to work for the party and also for the traders who have not had any representation in the Central Executive Committee. My aim is to fight for their interests and ensure they benefit from the ruling party. Traders have long lacked representation in the Uganda Revenue Authority, but I will work to change that,” he said.
Kwame Rugunda, who is vying for the position of NRM National General Secretary on the Central Executive Committee, has told journalists that, under the NRM party, he plans to tackle unemployment and promote key government initiatives such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model, among others.
It is worth noting that all aspirants are required to pay a non-refundable nomination fee, starting from Uganda Shillings 20 million.
During today’s media briefing, the party also confirmed that the NRM National Chairman will be nominated for two positions—Party Chairperson and Presidential Flag Bearer—this Saturday.
